In 1928, the construction of a large opera house was began. The project was inspired by a European theater. The theater Pedro II emerged as a symbol of power in a society formed by the coffee production.
In July 15, 1980 Pedro II lived his tragedy with the fire that destroyed the roof, the lining of the stage and a great part of its interior. In May 1991 the first stage of the restor project started. In 1996, Pedro II Theatre was reopened.
The campus of the University of São Paulo is situated in a complex area of an old coffee farm, formed by the faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Administration, Accounting, Philosophy, Biology, Psychology, Chemistry and Medicine, which stands for worldwide research. The campus also accommodates a Hospital, one of the most advanced research centers in Latin America.

The XV November Square, historical and geographical benchmark, is located in the downtown area. The square was listed by Condephaat (Council of Defense of the Historical, Artistic, Archaeological and Tourism of the State of São Paulo) on March 13, 1985, along with the "Paulista Square."

Founded in 1856 in a clearing where, a century before the Pioneers were passing, the city gained momentum with the coffee crop, grown by immigrants and fertilized by the red earth - "rossa" for Italians and "roxa" in the native linguage.
